The spring transfer portal window officially opened up on Wednesday morning, and programs from around the Big 12 will be looking to address roster needs one more time before summer workouts.
For some programs, that looks like adding just a few missing pieces, and for others, it might mean a mass exodus because of roster trimming requirements.
Wednesday morning got off to a particularly hot start for one Big 12 program, as Rich Rodriguez and the West Virginia Mountaineers saw a massive number of players enter the portal at once.
According to On3, WVU saw more than 25 players enter the portal on Wednesday morning, as Rich Rodriguez tries to establish a new roster culture in Morgantown.
Now, there is a bit of a caveat to this report, as this was more about reaching new roster requirements than it was about guys deciding to leave the program.
Unfortunately, this will be very popular during this cycle as the House vs. NCAA settlement will require teams to trim their rosters down to 105 players.
Considering that there have been no limits on walk-ons to this point, most rosters will have to do something similar in the coming days, it just appears that West Virginia was ready to rip the band-aid off.
The Mountaineers will open up the 2025 season against Robert Morris on Saturday, August 30.
