Oklahoma’s offense was historically bad in 2024, but the Sooners are doing everything possible to ensure that isn’t going to happen again this season.
Not only did they invest in the top available quarterback and offensive coordinator duo, but the Sooners have also added top-tier talent at wide receiver and offensive line.
Now, they’ve added a true difference-maker in the backfield alongside John Mateer, with Cal transfer running back Jadyn Ott.
Viewed as one of the top players at his position, Ott ranks third among all returning FBS running backs with 3,460 all-purpose yards over his first three seasons.
In 2023, Ott burst onto the scene as one of the top ball carriers in the country, earning All-Pac-12 First Team honors with 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground, plus another 196 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver.
Oklahoma’s rushing attack was not up to par last season, ranking 83rd nationally with just 136.1 yards per game. That, combined with a putrid passing game, made it difficult for the Sooners to score points.
As a result, they finished the season with a 6-7 record for the second time in three years under Brent Venables. Now, with a new offensive cast, there’s hope that things will be different in 2025.
