An interesting recruiting story to follow over the past years, former Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook has bounced around quite a bit lately.
After starting his career at Texas, Cook elected to transfer to Washington, where he spent two days with the team before departing the program.
Now, Cook has his sights set on finding his new home for the third time in his career, and is eyeing a return to the Big 12. That possibility revolves around Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils, who are set to host Cook on an official visit in the near future.
In his two-year career with the Longhorns, Cook posted 16 grabs for 273 yards and two scores. Despite his big-play ability on the football field, some of the issues surrounding Cook stem from his off-field behavior, which has caused him significant trouble over the past year.
From his comments about Texas’ swimming trophies during a recruiting visit to talking trash on Quinn Ewers after leaving the Longhorns’ program to transfer to Washington, and then subsequently being dropped by the Huskies, it’s been a wild ride for DeSoto (TX) native.
In February, Cook was arrested in Fort Worth on multiple charges, and a little more than one week later, he was once again booked into a corrections facility in the Lone Star State. According to arrest records in Grayson County, Texas, the former Texas and Washington wide receiver was booked into the Pottsboro Police Department for marijuana possession of less than two ounces.
At a time when Johntay Cook needs some stability and consistency more than ever, Kenny Dillingham could be the man for the job. With star wideout Jordyn Tyson returning to the team alongside star quarterback Sam Leavitt under center, the best option for Cook might just be in the Grand Canyon State.
