Top Wide Receiver in Transfer Portal Sets Two Big 12 Visits

NCAA Football: Utah at Baylor

McNeese State transfer wide receiver Jer’Michael Carter is making waves in the college football transfer portal, scheduling visits with several Power Five programs, including Big 12 contenders Baylor and Utah.

In 2024, Carter emerged as the top target in McNeese’s offense, hauling in 37 receptions for 537 yards and three touchdowns. Averaging 14.5 yards per catch, the 6-foot-4 sophomore proved himself as a vertical threat despite operating within a run-heavy system that offered limited looks through the air.

His frame, catch radius, and ability to win contested balls quickly caught the attention of programs looking to upgrade their receiving rooms.

Baylor’s effort to land Carter shows the Bears’ desire to stack talent around quarterback Sawyer Robertson, who enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2024.

The Bears finished the year 8–5, including a 6–3 record in Big 12 play, and leaned on a more explosive offensive approach under OC Jake Spavital.

While Baylor returns several key pieces, including their leading rusher and a solid offensive line, the receiving corps took a hit with the departures of Hal Presley and Monaray Baldwin.

Carter would offer Baylor another reliable target with size and the ability to stretch the field—something the Bears lacked at times last fall. His scheduled visit to Waco indicates mutual interest, and his addition could be pivotal to a Baylor offense that’s aiming to take another step forward in 2025.

Utah, meanwhile, is reshaping its roster after a disappointing 5–7 debut season in the Big 12. The Utes struggled offensively, especially through the air, and have prioritized the wide receiver position this offseason. With the departure of key contributors like Devaughn Vele and Money Parks, Utah’s receiver room has thinned considerably.

Head coach Kyle Whittingham has already hosted five-star Texas A&M transfer Micah Hudson on campus and is pushing to land another proven option in Carter. The Utes are known for their physicality and discipline, and Carter’s frame and experience could make him a plug-and-play asset on the outside.

For both Baylor and Utah, landing Carter wouldn’t just be about adding depth—it would be a strategic move to enhance offensive identity and execution. With visits on deck and offers on the table, Jer’Michael Carter’s next move is one worth watching.
