Big 12 Program Losing Recent Transfer to Second Portal Entry

NCAA Football: Big 12 Football Media Days

In a surprising development, offensive lineman Will Reed has entered the NCAA transfer portal, marking his departure from the West Virginia Mountaineers just months after transferring from Princeton.

Reed joined WVU in January as a graduate transfer, but will now look for his third program since the end of the 2024 season.

During his time at Princeton, Reed started 19 games over two seasons, accumulating over 1,000 snaps and earning a Pro Football Focus grade of 66.1 in 2024.

His performance attracted attention from several Power Four programs, including Arizona, Stanford, Virginia, and Georgia Tech, before he ultimately committed to West Virginia.

Reed’s decision to transfer comes just one day after the Mountaineers added Josh Aisosa from the portal, causing some to wonder if that had a direct impact on his decision Reed was anticipated to be a contributor to an offensive line undergoing significant restructuring, but now, his departure adds to the challenges facing WVU’s coaching staff as they continue to rebuild the roster.

With one year of eligibility remaining, he is expected to attract interest from schools in need of seasoned linemen.
