Look: Big 12 Program Flips Four-Star 2025 Prospect from Conference Rival

Signing day for the 2025 recruiting class was over two months ago, but one Big 12 program has landed a significant late addition, and it serves as a double-edged sword.

On Friday, TCU landed a commitment from four-star cornerback Deon Mays, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect out of Arlington, Texas.

Mays signed with Utah in December, but has since requested out of his national letter of intent and decommitted from the Utes on April 8.

Now, Mays is staying home and bolstering the Horned Frogs’ secondary, and gives TCU one of its highest-rated prospects in the class, according to Rivals.

Mays held offers from BYU, Utah, and San Diego State, among others, but will be a Horned Frog after his unorthodox process of staying home to play at the next level.

Mays is the 10th defensive back to sign as a member of TCU’s 2025 class, and is their second-highest rated newcomer, trailing only four-star defensive end Chad Woodfork out of Humble, Texas.

TCU opens up its 2025 season against North Carolina on Monday, September 1.
