Shedeur Sanders’ draft stock started to take a tumble earlier this week, and on Thursday, the former Colorado quarterback went all night without hearing his name called in the first round. Despite many feeling that he would go to Pittsburgh with the 21st overall pick, Sanders is still available for the Cleveland Browns to grab with the first pick of the second round.
It was a rather surprising outcome considering he was a virtual lock to go inside the top five earlier this spring.
Sanders’ trip down the draft boards was the talk of the draft last night, and it continued well into Friday, as everyone continues to share their thoughts on the matter.
In fact, even President Donald Trump can’t seem to believe that he’s fallen as far as he has. On Friday afternoon, the Commander-in-Chief put NFL owners on blast for bypassing a prospect with “PHENOMENAL GENES.”
“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”
Statiscally speaking, Trump has an argument. Sanders completed 74% of his attempts in 2024, racking up 4,134 yards and 37 passing touchdowns (4 rushing) on his way to Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and AP Second-Team All-American honors.
After setting single-season school records for passing yards, completions, attempts, touchdowns, completion percentage and quarterback rating, it’s safe to say he’s the best quarterback that Colorado football has ever had.
Still, it appears that’s not good enough to go in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, despite one of the worst quarterback classes in recent memory.
