While ESPN’s Mel Kiper may not be the most popular man at the 2025 NFL Draft due to his constant glazing of Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, he scored some big points with Oklahoma State fans on Saturday when discussing Ollie Gordon II.
Gordon, who was projected as a first-round NFL Draft choice ahead of the 2024 season, fell all the way to the sixth round in 2025, the No. 179 pick by the Miami Dolphins.
His stock was discussed by ESPN’s crew, which included Mel Kiper, who took some shots at the offensive line unit in Stillwater.
“He’s a downhill, punishing type-back,” Kiper said. “But the offensive line, there was no running room at all. He was hitting a wall. You could’ve had Barry Sanders back there, and he would’ve had trouble getting yards, and Ollie Gordon II is not that elusive, but the offensive line, there’s been nothing to help them.”
In 2023, Gordon was widely regarded as the nation’s best running back after winning the Doak Walker Award in his sophomore season. The Texas native posted 1,732 yards on 285 carries, averaging an impressive six yards per carry. He also reached paydirt 22 times and helped play an integral role in the Cowboys’ trip to the Big 12 Championship Game.
Unfortunately, a struggling offensive line crushed Gordon’s 2024 campaign, as the junior back failed to eclipse the 1000-yard mark, and his yards per carry dropped to 4.6.
Now, Gordon looks for some help on the offensive line as a member of the Miami Dolphins in 2025.
