Following an interesting showing in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns were left with one of the league’s most interesting quarterback rooms.
The group features three veterans, Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett, as well as a pair of rookie quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
Recently, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler provided an update on the future outlook of the Browns’ quarterback unit, outlining what the team believes the best path forward is.
“Well, asking around after the draft, the sense I get is the Browns value, or look at the roster through the prism of currency, through value,” Fowler said. “So that could lead to a potential trade down the road because it’s a crowded room. Head coach Kevin Stefanski does like to keep four quarterbacks in his room. So, you roll up those four, they gave up a third round pick and two fifth round picks for Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders, maybe they can recoup some of that if they showcase one of those players in the preseason, or one looks good, or there’s an injury down the road.”
“We’ll see what happens,” Fowler continued. “They’re going to give these guys a shot. They are very high on Dillon Gabriel. That’s a player that I had earmarked going into the draft. I was hearing from other teams that the Browns low-key really like him. He’s a smaller player, so he didn’t have a high draft status, but they loved the way he plays the position, so we’ll see if he can make a little move here.”
In the case of Shedeur Sanders, a player expected to go in the first round but dropped to the fifth, things were a little awkward. The former Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year dropped like a rock down NFL Draft boards, with most teams staying clear from him due to his poor interview showing and overall cockiness.
If Sanders can hit the ground running in Cleveland, Kevin Stefanski and the Browns will have found a home-run addition, signing a franchise quarterback in the fifth round.
