College Football Playoff Adds Familiar Big 12 Face to Selection Committee

As the College Football Playoff committee continues to grow, unfortunately, so does the criticism from outside sources.

On Monday, however, the group added a former Big 12 Athletic Director to its ranks, including former Kansas Jayhawks AD Jeff Long.

Long, a veteran of the administrative world, spent time with multiple different programs from 1988 to 2021, including Rice, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Arkansas, and Kansas.

Long joined the Jayhawks in 2018 with a mission of getting the football program back on track. His first task was firing David Beaty, Kansas’ head coach from 2015-2018, who finished his career in Lawrence with a 6-42 overall record. His replacement? Les Miles.

Before his time at Kansas, Miles was one of college football’s most respected head coaches, with sustained success for more than a decade. Unfortunately, Miles’ legacy was tarnished at both LSU and Kansas, with 37 wins getting vacated at LSU due to player eligibility, and his time as head coach of Kansas was halted due to a sexual harassment scandal that occurred in Louisiana.

Long eventually stepped down just one day after the program moved on from Les Miles. He joins the CFP committee. His most recent stint was as an athletic director in the Big 12 Conference, a league that has been continually disrespected by the College Football Playoff committee.
