Joel Klatt Lists Five Big 12 Teams in Way-Too-Early Top 25

Joel Klatt

On Monday, FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt gave his picks for a way-too-early look at college football’s preseason Top 25.

Five Big 12 teams were included on the list, including BYU, Arizona State, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Baylor.

The BYU Cougars earned the honor of the league’s top-ranked group, checking in at No. 14. Arizona State followed them up at No. 15, Kansas State at No. 16, Iowa State at No. 17, and Baylor at No. 24.

One interesting takeaway from Klatt’s list is that he placed four Big 12 teams in a row from No. 14 to No. 17. The lone outlier was Baylor, which sat seven places behind the block.

The Bears have become a bit of a head-scratcher for the majority of college football media members, as the jury is still out on whether or not Dave Aranda’s group should be ranked. Our very own Derek Duke wrote about the exclusion of Baylor on several other notable Top 25 lists, noting that the team has more than earned their spot.

Two other notable Big 12 names, Texas and Oklahoma, both earned places on the list following their first season in the SEC. Texas nearly earned the top spot, listed one space behind Penn State at No. 2, while Oklahoma snuck into the field at No. 25 after their horrendous 2024 season.

With just a few months until the 2025 season kicks off in Dublin, Ireland, between Kansas State and Iowa State, the anticipation continues to build for what should be an incredibly exciting year.
