Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban is already tired of Donald Trump’s plan to have him co-chair a college sports commission alongside Texas Tech booster Cody Campbell.
What could be the reason for that?
Interestingly enough, Saban’s disdain for the idea broke shortly after a report from Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, who noted that the Big 12 and the ACC are pushing for three autobids each to the College Football Playoff.
“First of all, I don’t know a lot about the commission,” Saban said. “Secondly, I’m not sure we really need a commission. I think that a lot of people know exactly what the issues are in college football and exactly what we need to do to fix them. The key to the drill is getting people together so we can move it forward.”
The likely connection between the two reports is with Cody Campbell, the other person tasked with fixing college football. In the past, the SEC’s been essentially the only voice in the room when it comes to shaping the future of the sport, and now, the Big 12 has a seat at the head of the table.
Could this be a coincidence? Absolutely, but for a guy who campaigned his role in “fixing the sport,” immediately pumping the brakes as the Big 12 and the ACC push for equality feels a bit too convenient for my liking.
