The SEC and the Big Ten continue to take steps toward potentially waging war with other conferences, and now, the situation has become somewhat political.
On Tuesday, one congressman entered the fold with a warning message for the pair of leagues as they “appear hellbent on ruining major college football.”
Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan Boyle spoke out on behalf of college football fans with a detailed social media post on X, advising the Big Ten and SEC to proceed with caution in their next steps.
“Let me state this as clearly as I can: the Big Ten and SEC should be very, very careful about some of the decisions they are about to make,” Boyle said. “Because they appear hellbent on ruining major college football. I think they need congressional hearings into their collusion.”
Collusion appears to be the name of the game lately, and Boyle isn’t the only one to take note. Many voices in college football have piled in with criticism of SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, and at his recent press conference, the pressure can be seen setting in on him.
Sankey said on Monday from Florida that he didn’t want to be lectured about the good of the game by others. However, his implication that the Big 12 and the ACC were sending out press releases in the wake of the College Football Playoff moving to a straight-seeding model last week was just inaccurate.
While Sankey may feel otherwise, he’s quickly become the face of everything wrong with college football, and even politicians can see it.
