Jahmir Davis Backs Off WVU Pledge, Commits to Sun Belt Program

NCAA Football: Big 12 Football Media Days

Just days after the last of West Virginia’s signed offensive linemen reported for minicamp, 2025 signee Jahmir Davis reportedly flipped his commitment and his destination.

Davis, a Cincinnati-area tackle, has quietly updated his social media to indicate he’s heading to Southern Miss instead of Morgantown.

“2025 OL Jahmir Davis, who signed with the Mountaineers in the winter, has confirmed with me that he is no longer coming to WVU,” Sports Illustrated’s Schuyler Callihan wrote on X. “He’ll enroll at Southern Miss.”

Davis originally committed to the Mountaineers in January, during a chaotic stretch that saw Neal Brown dismissed as head coach. At the time, he was viewed as a key piece to help solidify future depth along the offensive line.

However, with coaching changes and shifting roster strategies under new leadership, Davis never formally enrolled or participated in team activities in Morgantown. Now, it appears he’ll be taking his talents to the Sun Belt instead.

For West Virginia, this marks the latest departure from what once appeared to be a promising class of developmental linemen. Davis joins a growing list of high school commits who have either flipped or been quietly phased out amid the Mountaineers’ pivot to the transfer portal for immediate help.

Meanwhile, Southern Miss continues to benefit from the leadership of head coach Charles Huff, who took over after a mass exodus of players from Marshall. Davis becomes one of several new additions aimed at rebuilding depth up front for the Golden Eagles, whose 2025 recruiting class ranks just outside the top 10 in the Sun Belt but continues to trend upward.

Although neither WVU nor Southern Miss has issued an official statement, Davis’s Instagram profile now prominently features his new school, suggesting that his recruitment is now fully closed.

It’s a quiet, late-cycle flip, but one that carries real implications for a Mountaineer program still reshaping its roster in the Rich Rodriguez era.
