Texas Tech pulled off a massive recruiting win today by landing four‑star cornerback S’Vioarean Martin from Palestine High School, beating out Big 12 rivals Kansas State and Houston for his pledge.
Martin made the announcement following a well-publicized official visit to Lubbock from June 13 to 15, during which coaches, players, and facilities left a strong impression.
Measuring in at 6‑foot‑2 and 185 pounds, Martin brings rare length and 11.05‑second 100‑meter track speed to Lubbock’s secondary.
On the field last season, he logged 28 tackles, forced a fumble, broke up four passes, and even contributed 229 yards receiving with two touchdowns on offense.
His dual-threat versatility as a defensive back with play-making instincts and athleticism gives Texas Tech a premium piece in their 2026 signing class.
Martin’s commitment marks Texas Tech’s 15th pledge for 2026 and their fifth defensive back, joining a growing secondary group that includes Luke Bell, Maddox Quiller, Noah Lewis, and Aaron Bradshaw.
Though Rivals rates him a 3-star at 5.7, On3 ranks him higher as a 4-star (90 rating), the No. 32 corner, and the No. 43 player in Texas.
Kansas State, which was viewed as a frontrunner prior to the official visits, remained in the mix on decision day, but Texas Tech clearly sealed the deal. Martin told on-site sources the visit “couldn’t have been any better” and praised the energy and culture he experienced with players and staff.
For Texas Tech, this is more than a single commitment; it reinforces defensive recruiting momentum in Big 12 country. The program now stands among the conference leaders in securing elite in-state and regional secondary talent, a clear priority under coach Joey McGuire’s staff.
Martin’s decision not only stings for K‑State and Houston but also underscores Texas Tech’s rising profile in combating roster losses and positioning itself defensively for the next cycle.
