Memorial Stadium Will Now Offer Beer Sales on Game Days

NCAA Football Wisconsin | Heartland College Sports

Nebraska is changing game days at Memorial Stadium. For the first time in program history, Huskers fans will be able to buy beer during football events—starting with the season opener.

The announcement comes after approval from the University of Nebraska Board of Regents and confirmation via the school’s official channels.

The first opportunity arrives this weekend at the Big Red Preview, a preseason scrimmage set for Saturday at Nebraska’s home stadium. Alcohol sales have been approved for two levels inside Memorial—on the main concourse of the West Stadium and the on‑field North Stadium seating.

That change follows a nearly unanimous vote from the Board of Regents in October 2024, which granted system-wide approval for alcohol at all athletic events across NU’s campuses. Nebraska was the final Big Ten school to allow beer sales during football games.

Athletic Director Troy Dannen has emphasized that safety measures and fan logistics have been reviewed by Homeland Security ahead of this season. As part of the rollout, Memorial Stadium will also enforce a strict no‑reentry policy to reduce risk. With 59 designated points of sale, the university is planning to control pacing and limit alcohol consumption.

Off the field, concessions management has shifted to Aramark, which will oversee alcohol sales. Traditional vendors like Valentino’s, Runza, and Fairbury are expected to remain.

Nebraska fans have packed Memorial Stadium for a record 403 consecutive home sellouts dating back to 1962. The shift to alcohol availability represents a major milestone, aligning NU with national stadium practices and Big Ten peers.

All eyes will be on opening weekend, not just for the team’s return to football but for how well the new alcohol policy integrates into Nebraska’s storied gameday atmosphere.
