ESPN’s Stanford Steve Has One Big 12 Team in His Preseason Top 15

NCAA Football: Central Florida at Arizona State

Arizona State is entering its second season competing in the Big 12 Conference, as the program continues to garner national attention heading into the 2025 college football campaign.

ESPN analyst Stanford Steve listed the Sun Devils in his preseason Top 15 this week, placing them among the most respected teams in the country. ASU came in at No. 12 on the list, ahead of Oklahoma, Indiana, and Illinois.

Arizona State also checked in at No. 11 in the 2025 NCAA Coaches Poll. One year ago, the Sun Devils were projected to finish last in the Big 12, but Head Coach Kenny Dillingham has changed the narrative and expectations in Tempe.

In 2024, the Sun Devils stunned the conference in their debut season, going from the bottom of the preseason poll to Big 12 champions. They earned a trip to the College Football Playoff as the No. 4 overall seed.

ASU returns quarterback Sam Leavitt, receiver Jordyn Tyson, and defensive leaders Keyshaun Elliott, Xavion Alford, and C.J. Fite, who were all key contributors from last year’s playoff team.

With experience, depth, and talent returning to the field, Arizona State enters 2025 as the Big 12’s top contender.

Clemson, Penn State, Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, LSU, Oregon, and Miami rounded out the top 10.

With the opportunity to repeat as conference champions, Arizona State is no longer flying under the radar. Despite losing former running back Cam Skattebo to the NFL, the program still has a serious chance to return to the College Football Playoff.
