Texas continues to climb the national radar heading into the 2025 season, landing at No. 4 in Greg McElroy’s preseason Top 10. He listed the Longhorns just behind Clemson, Penn State, and Notre Dame in his latest rankings, placing them ahead of perennial powers Alabama and Georgia.
Now in its second season as an SEC member, Texas enters 2025 with one of the most complete rosters in college football. Former five-star quarterback Arch Manning is set to take the reins, marking the beginning of a new era in Austin.
Last season, the Longhorns made it to the semi-final round of the College Football Playoff before falling to Ohio State, with former quarterback Quinn Ewers leading the way.
Now, the offense lies in the hands of Manning, alongside explosive running back Quintrevion Wisner and a reloaded receiver group featuring freshman standout Kaliq Lockett.
Defensively, Texas brings back experience at every level. The defense returns its strong secondary group that ranked first in the SEC in yards allowed per game in 2024.
Head Coach Steve Sarkisian put together one of the top recruiting classes in the country, giving Texas a chance to return to the CFB Playoff.
The program’s transition from the Big 12 to the SEC did not take long, winning the SEC West in 2024.
The Longhorns will open the 2025 season with a serious test, taking on the defending champion, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in Columbus on Aug. 30.
