Former Florida State and Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke on his possible return to coaching collegiate football on the Trials to Triumph podcast.
The 59-year-old former head coach said he’s “in great shape and healthy” and is “very interested” in returning to the sidelines if the right opportunity comes along.
Fisher, who received a record $77 million buyout after being fired by Texas A&M in November 2023, boasts a career winning percentage of 72% and owns a national championship from his 14-0 run with Florida State in 2013. That stretch included three straight ACC titles and a College Football Playoff berth.
While Fisher’s coaching history lies in the ACC and SEC, a Big 12 destination can’t be ruled out.
The conference is as competitive as ever, and with expansion year after year, a proven name like Fisher could be an attractive hire for a program looking for an immediate impact.
His reputation for developing quarterbacks and recruiting at a high level would be valuable in a league stacked with offensive firepower.
Some names he worked with include Jameis Winston (No. 1 overall pick in 2015) and EJ Manuel.
Fisher said on the podcast that he misses the “relationships with the players.” Not many coaches have a resume as impressive as his, so if he decides to return to the sidelines, it is expected that several Power Five programs would be interested.
