After exiting the Iowa State game early in the first quarter, Kansas State return man and running back Dylan Edwards dropped a note to the “doubters” on Sunday afternoon. Edwards had a muffed punt on his first touch of the season, and departed the game shortly after that. But one day after the K-State Wildcats lost to the Cyclones 24-21, Edwards felt the need to address some of the social media rumors, saying, “I’d never be a person to quit on my teammates or do anything of that nature for attention and pride. If you truly know me, you know that I am a competitor… I will be back. God makes no mistakes.”
It’s been a drama-filled weekend for the Wildcats, who not only lost to the Cyclones overseas, but dealt with the off-field drama involving Avery Johnson’s dad and brother getting into a fistfight after the game in a viral video. The Johnson family went on to issue an apology for their actions after the game in Dublin, Ireland.
Dylan Edwards and Avery Johnson are homegrown products who have been playing football together since they were kids. Edwards began his career at Colorado before transferring home to K-State prior to the 2024 season and re-joined his long-time teammate in what could still develop into one of the best QB-RB duos in the Big 12 Conference.
But for now, the Wildcats have to travel home 5,000 miles and put out multiple off-field fires. In addition to starting 0-1 overall and 0-1 in Big 12 play, this is one of the worst starts to the season imaginable for Chris Klieman and the Cats, who began the season as Big 12 contenders. And while there’s no doubt they still are, it’s an uphill battle from here on out.
K-State is back home next Saturday to take on North Dakota with kick off at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
