From Texas to Kansas to JUCO, Arterio Morris Finds a New Home

NCAA Basketball: Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

Arterio Morris, once a five‑star recruit and McDonald’s All‑American who played at Texas and Kansas, has signed with Bethune‑Cookman.

The 6‑foot‑4 guard arrives after a season at South Plains Junior College in Texas. His journey to Daytona Beach marks a sharp departure from the expectations tied to his recruiting profile.

Morris entered college basketball with a high pedigree, ranked among the top recruits nationally. He began at Texas, where he averaged 4.6 points in 11.8 minutes per game as a freshman. He then transferred to Kansas, only to be dismissed from the program following a criminal charge involving allegations of sexual assault.

His signing with Bethune‑Cookman offers a fresh opportunity, but it comes after a turbulent path defined by legal issues and unfulfilled promises. What once looked like a trajectory toward power‑conference stardom now shifts to the SWAC level and a renewed effort to rebuild both skill and reputation.

At South Plains Junior College, Morris was rated the No. 3 JUCO prospect in the country. His overall production there is not well documented, but the move speaks to his willingness to take an unconventional path back into Division I hoops.

Under the leadership of coach Reggie Theus, Bethune‑Cookman has added Morris as part of an influx of transfers and newcomers intended to elevate a program that reached the SWAC tournament semifinals last season.

For Morris, staying accountable and consistent on and off the court will be critical. A signing alone does not erase the missteps that defined his early career, yet it opens a door to reshape the narrative. How he performs in Daytona Beach will determine whether this chapter is a reset or a final curtain on what once appeared to be a promising talent.
