Week 1 delivered exactly what college football fans have been waiting for: highlight-reel plays, breakout performances, and moments that set the tone for the season ahead.
From big-time opponents to statement games across the Big 12 and beyond, the first slate of matchups gave us plenty to talk about. With so much excitement, we narrowed it down to the five best plays that stood out from the opening weekend.
NO. 5 – A SEED FROM WEIGMAN
The Houston Cougars beat up on Stephen F. Austin, but that’s to be expected. What remained a question heading into Saturday was how effective quarterback play would be in Houston. Connor Weigman removed all doubt for that one and threw an absolute seed for the score.
NO. 4 – BYU TRICKERY
What a play by the BYU Cougars! A jet sweep with some english on it, and the rest was all up to Dominique McKenzie. He shrugged off three would-be tacklers to scamper to the end zone and continue the routing of Portland State in Provo. The electric moment captured the fourth spot on the list of Week 1 top plays.
NO. 3 – JORDYN TYSON TRACKING MASTERCLASS
Jordyn Tyson, take a bow! For starters, Sam Leavitt gave his guy an opportunity to make a play, and the rest was all Tyson. The veteran wideout tracked the football perfectly for the over-the-shoulder catch, which quickly took over social media. The Sun Devils aren’t here to mess around, and the No. 3 highlight made it clear.
NO. 2 – JALON DANIELS IS BACK, FOR GOOD
One of the early front-runners for best quarterbacks in the Big 12 this season has been Jalon Daniels, and it’s easy to see why. This throw to Emmanuel Henderson was a complete showstopper in the Booth, and Kansas continued to put the hammer down on Howard. The Jayhawks have a massive challenge waiting for them next week with Missouri, and it will be awesome.
NO. 1 – THE KICK HEARD AROUND THE MIDWEST
This may not be breaking any news to Iowa State fans, but Kyle Konrardy is awesome. The dude has a club for a leg, and the football explodes off the point of contact every time he trots out there. Against South Dakota, Konrardy set a program record with a 63-yarder. The scene was incredible, and the ‘Clones did their thing.
