One Big 12 Team STINKS Against the Spread This Year

Big 12 football logo behind elevated question mark.

Kansas State is in a rough spot this season, and it goes beyond the win-loss record. The Wildcats are the only team in college football that is 0-4 against the spread. Not a single cover. Not even close. When it comes to meeting expectations, no team has done less through four weeks.

This is not just bad luck or a one-week slip. Kansas State has been favored or close in every game they have played, yet they have failed to deliver in all four. The Wildcats struggled to put away FCS North Dakota, fell short against Arizona and Iowa State, and dropped another one at home to Army. Each of those games exposed the same problems: offensive inconsistency, soft line play, and a lack of explosiveness in the run game.

Being 0-4 against the spread tells a different story than the basic win-loss record. It means that this team is not living up to expectations from oddsmakers or anyone paying close attention. Fans might be frustrated with the product on the field, but bettors are downright furious. Kansas State is not just losing ground in the Big 12. They are actively costing people money.

This is unfamiliar territory for Chris Klieman’s program. Under his leadership, Kansas State has built a reputation for discipline, toughness, and overachieving. But this year, none of that is showing up when it matters. The Wildcats look disconnected and uncertain. That identity they were known for has started to slip.

The issue is not that Kansas State is a bad team. They still have potential, and the schedule offers chances to turn things around. But the gap between how this team is perceived and how it actually performs is growing. Until that changes, the Wildcats will keep ending up on the wrong side of the number.

For now, Kansas State is not just winless against the spread. They are setting the pace for underperformance across college football.
