Another Five-Star Heading to Texas Tech? Experts Say Yes!

NCAA Football: Texas Tech at North Carolina State

Top defensive line prospect Jalen Brewster remains one of the most coveted recruits in the 2027 class, and expert evaluators believe Texas Tech is very much in the mix to land him. Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman both recently logged predictions that Brewster could commit to the Red Raiders. While nothing is finalized yet, their analysis adds more weight to what many Red Raider fans hope is a breakout recruiting win.

Brewster is widely considered the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country for 2027 and ranks among the top ten overall recruits per multiple outlets. He plays his high school ball at Cedar Hill, Texas, where he has drawn widespread attention for both his size, roughly 6-foot-3, 300 pounds, and his athleticism. Those traits, combined with strong recruiting interest from powerhouse programs, make any prediction that edges toward Texas Tech meaningful.

What’s working in Texas Tech’s favor? First, proximity and local relationships matter hugely in recruitments of this caliber. Brewster’s Texas roots give Tech an opportunity many schools don’t have. Second, multiple expert services have noted that Texas Tech is surging in Brewster’s final recruitment rankings, meaning the Red Raiders are building momentum. Third, Tech’s NIL situation, coaching pitch, and early-season on-field performances are being viewed as credible for elite prospects.

However, Brewster’s recruitment is far from decided. He has set an official commitment date of October 4. His finalist list includes major programs: Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Oregon, LSU, and others, along with Texas Tech. There’s still strong competition, and even small slips or strong visits could shift the balance.

For Texas Tech, a commitment from Brewster would be a statement. It would strengthen the defense for years, boost recruiting credibility, and energize the fan base. But there’s still work to do. Maintaining relationships, ensuring NIL alignment, and providing Brewster with both opportunities and exposure. The predictions are promising. Whether they become reality remains to be seen.
