Week 6 of the college football season is upon us, as we are in store for another exciting weekend of Big 12 action. I thought it would be fun to rank the games based on my interest each week. Between big-time matchups, total duds, and everything in between, here are my best-to-worst games for the weekend.
BEST-TO-WORST GAMES
No. 1 – #14 Iowa State at Cincinnati
This is easily the best game of the weekend in the Big 12. The undefeated Cyclones are hitting the road to take on a Cincinnati team that is coming off a big win against Kansas last weekend. Both offenses have been great so far this season, and we get to see two good quarterbacks go head-to-head between Rocco Becht and Brendan Sorsby. I can see a lot of points in this one due to the Bearcats’ defense not being great, and with Iowa State’s injuries in the secondary. Buckle up because this is going to be a good one.
No. 2 – Kansas State at Baylor
Even though this game is on ESPN+, that doesn’t mean it’s not an important game in the Big 12. Kansas State has been a massive disappointment up to this point, and Baylor hasn’t been a whole lot better. However, both teams are still in the Big 12 title hunt with just one loss in conference action. I am very interested to see which team shows up on Saturday in Waco, as the winner will stay in the race, while the loser can likely kiss their Jerry World hopes goodbye in early October.
No. 3 – Kansas at UCF
This had a chance to be the best game of the weekend if Kansas and UCF had won last weekend, but they didn’t. That doesn’t take away from the fact that this is still an interesting matchup down in Orlando. We know Kansas has the offense to score points on anyone, but that defense of theirs is questionable at best. If UCF can control the game on the ground, then I wouldn’t be shocked to see an upset. Plus, I know the bounce house will be rocking on Saturday night.
No. 3 – #11 Texas Tech at Houston
I already know Texas Tech is going to win this game. It’s not often you see a team be a double-digit favorite on the road in conference play, but when you think about it, there will be plenty of Red Raider fans in the stands in Houston. Even though Houston is 4-0 for the first time in nine years, we are going to learn a lot more about the Cougars in the one going up against a team like Texas Tech. Can they keep it close, or will they get blown out like everyone else? Only time will tell.
No. 4 – Colorado at TCU
TCU, coming off a tough loss in Tempe last week, means that they will likely play with their hair on fire this week in Fort Worth. I know what the offense with TCU is capable of with Josh Hoover, who had maybe the worst game of his career against Arizona State. Meanwhile, Colorado has problems all over the field between their defense and figuring out their quarterback situation. The Horned Frogs should win this one by double digits.
No. 5 – Oklahoma State at Arizona
A few weeks ago, I would have said that this would be the worst game of the weekend, but it’s not. Oklahoma State actually showed a little life against Baylor last weekend in Stillwater. I don’t know if it was because of Gundy being fired or what, but if they play like that, then they could make things interesting in Tucson. But I do know that the Wildcats want to get the bad taste out of their mouth after getting beat down in Ames.
No. 6 – West Virginia at #23 BYU
I have said it before, and I will say it again: West Virginia is the worst team in the Big 12, and this matchup should scare Mountaineer fans. Going to Provo isn’t easy for anyone, but this West Virginia team doesn’t stand a chance against BYU on the road. This is a game simply to watch because there is nothing else on TV late Friday night.
