Two Familiar Names Have Surfaced in the Arkansas Coaching Search

NCAA Football: South Dakota at Kansas State

The Arkansas head coaching search is heating up, and Big 12 footprints are showing up in the mix. In 247Sports’ “Hot Board 2.0,” two names tied to Big 12 programs were floated as possible replacements: Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham and former Kansas State offensive coordinator (and former K-State QB) Collin Klein.

The fact that Dillingham’s name is on the radar shouldn’t surprise many. In his short time at Arizona State, he’s shown he can recruit, adapt, and take on a challenge. Arkansas may see in him a young coach with upside and the ability to energize a fan base. Meanwhile, Klein has long been admired in coaching circles for his offensive acumen and ties to Big 12 leadership. His transition from K-State to high-level offensive coordinator roles shows he’s building a résumé worthy of head coaching consideration.

The presence of those names in Arkansas’ search reflects more than just coincidence. It highlights how Big 12 connections and reputation carry weight in the broader Power Four coaching carousel. Dillingham’s recent work in the conference may give him credibility for a job like Arkansas. For Klein, his time in Big 12 systems and relationships formed across that footprint could become selling points.

Still, being a name is different from being a finalist. Arkansas, with the resources, expectations, and pressure inherent to an SEC program, is likely vetting numerous top options. But the inclusion of Dillingham and Klein suggests that Big 12 ties are being viewed as assets, not liabilities, in national searches. It also means that the Big 12’s coaching brand continues to expand outward.

In the end, whether Arkansas selects a name from inside the SEC orbit or dips into Big 12 territory will speak to how they perceive value, culture fit, and competitive edge. For now, Dillingham and Klein have earned enough visibility to be part of the conversation, and that in itself is a win for the conference’s coaching reputation.
