Colorado head coach Deion Sanders revealed a concerning update about his health following the Buffaloes’ 35-21 loss, saying he believes he may be dealing with more blood clots in his leg. Sanders, who has battled severe circulation issues over the past several years, didn’t shy away from the subject when speaking with reporters after the game.

“Cat’s out of the bag, all right. I think I’ve got more blood clots,” Sanders said. “It don’t make sense. I’m hurting like crazy. I’m not getting blood to my leg. That’s why my leg is throbbing.”

The comment came unprompted, and it immediately raised concern across the college football world. Sanders has been open about his ongoing health struggles, including multiple surgeries on his left leg and foot in 2021 due to life-threatening blood clots that ultimately led to the amputation of two toes. Since then, he has continued to deal with complications while coaching at Jackson State and Colorado, though he’s rarely allowed those challenges to affect his demeanor publicly.

On Saturday night, however, Sanders’ tone was different. He looked uncomfortable on the sideline for much of the game, often standing still for long stretches and limping slightly between drives. His postgame remarks added clarity to what many noticed: that he was clearly in pain.

“I’m hurting like crazy,” Sanders repeated, explaining that the throbbing pain had worsened and that he would be undergoing medical evaluation soon. While he didn’t provide details about the extent of the issue, the acknowledgment itself marked the most candid update on his condition since the summer, when he underwent another procedure to improve circulation.

Sanders’ health has become an ongoing subplot to his tenure at Colorado. Despite the medical setbacks, he’s continued to coach with energy and intensity, serving as the face of one of college football’s most-watched programs. But each flare-up brings renewed questions about how long he can keep going at this level without risking further complications.

The coach’s willingness to address it publicly speaks to both his transparency and his toughness. Even after a disappointing loss, his message wasn’t about football; it was about something far more serious. For now, the focus shifts from wins and losses to Sanders’ well-being.

Colorado fans, players, and the broader college football community will be watching closely in the coming days to see what updates emerge. Sanders’ health has always been a battle he’s faced head-on, but this latest development is a reminder that the fight isn’t over.
