College GameDay Crew Does Not Watch Big 12 Football

Syndication: The Columbus Dispatch

They. Do. Not. Watch. Big 12 football.

That’s the only plausible conclusion after hearing one of ESPN’s College GameDay panelists claim they “don’t know if a team has separated themselves from the rest of the pack in the Big 12.”

Meanwhile, Texas Tech sits atop the betting odds at –115 to win the conference, and the next closest contender, Utah, sits at +900. If that doesn’t sound like separation, you and I are speaking different languages.

Let’s be crystal clear: if you’re going to pontificate on a league, you better have actually studied the tape, parsed trends, and absorbed narratives. But making a blanket statement like “no one’s separated” from a studio desk, without context or evidence, is not analysis. It’s lazy commentary disguised as insight.

Consider the facts. Texas Tech is not just good this week; they’re winning at every aspect of the game and are even ranked inside the Top 10. In the most recent Big 12 power rankings, the Red Raiders earned unanimous first‑place votes. They’re beating quality opponents, producing blowouts, and showing balance on both sides of the ball. Meanwhile, other programs, yes, including Utah, are still building narratives, proving depth, or finding consistency. To equate Texas Tech with the rest of the Big 12 at this moment is to ignore everything the numbers, the eyes, and the marketplace are telling us.

That betting line is not arbitrary. Odds are shaped by public money, expert opinion, and predictive models. When a team is -115 and the next is +900, the market is loudly signaling a leader. To suggest otherwise is to either misunderstand how betting markets work or to pretend they don’t exist. That’s not boldness, it’s ignorance.

In short, yes, a team has separated itself in the Big 12. It’s just not “the pack.” And until the GameDay panel starts treating the league with respect, that means doing homework, holding opinions to data, and calibrating claims, statements like “no separation” make them sound ignorant, not provocative.

Here’s hoping next week they show up having watched a few games.
