The scene in Boulder after Colorado’s upset of Iowa State was equal parts celebratory and alarming. Fans stormed the field, tears came down, and the goalposts were ripped from the turf. Then, in what looked part comical, part dangerous, one fan got pinned under the weight of the post.

A video tweeted by @NickyPerkss shows the moment. You see a man among the rushing crowd, trying to catch up, then suddenly caught under a collapsing upright. For a few terrifying seconds, he’s pinned there, struggling, until fellow fans rush in to lift the pole off him. He emerges, shaken, embarrassed, but fortunately unharmed.

It’s hard not to chuckle at the absurdity. Who gets crushed by a goalpost while celebrating an upset? But the laughter is tinged with nervousness. Storming the field, or tearing down goalposts, has a long tradition in college football, especially after big wins. But those rituals carry real risks. Collapsing metal and sprawling concrete can cause serious injury.

This wasn’t a calculated risk or a bold protest; it was passion and chaos in action. And while the outcome here was more embarrassing than tragic, it offers a reminder: these celebratory traditions can backfire. Stadiums, schools, and fans should all remember that sometimes the wildest moments are the ones you don’t want to live with.
