No. 7 Texas Tech suffered a major blow, as star defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to injury, per Chris Hummer.

The injury occurred during the Red Raiders’ dominant win over Kansas last weekend, which pushed them to a perfect 6-0 record.

Texas Tech’s defense has been one of the nation’s best in 2025, allowing just over 12 points per game, and Gill-Howard has been a key force up front.

The loss of Gill-Howard will test the depth of a defensive line that has been both disruptive and consistent through the first half of the season. His ability to control the interior and collapse the pocket has been vital to the Red Raiders’ success, especially in Big 12 play.

With title hopes still very much alive, Texas Tech will now need others to step up in Gill-Howard’s absence. The team remains hopeful he could return in time for the College Football Playoff, if they earn a spot.

He has recorded nine solo tackles, as well as one interception that he returned for a touchdown against Kent State.

“Gill-Howard had the 4th-highest PFF grade among DTs nationally,” Hummer said via X.

Texas Tech will look to improve to 7-0 this weekend with a matchup against Arizona State at 4 p.m. ET on FOX. The game will take place in Tempe, Arizona.
