The 2025 college football season crossed the halfway mark with Week 8 and its the Big 12 there were six games on the schedule this week, all kicking off on Saturday. And while we reach the back half of the season, reviewing a fan base’s attendance also gives us a chance to see which teams are the most passionate about their teams, and which fan bases have checked out and are already looking forward to basketball season. Some teams are surprising, some are disappointing, but who is showing up? With Week 7 of the season in the rearview mirror, here’s a look at the attendance numbers in the conference.
Big 12 Football Week 6 Attendance (Percentage capacity in parenthesis)
- BYU vs. Utah: Â 64,794 (102.09%)
- Arizona State vs. Texas Tech: 54,177 (101.08%)
- UCF vs. West Virginia: 43,445 (98.27%)
- TCU vs. Baylor: 43,868 (95.3%)
- Oklahoma State vs. Cincinnati: 46,901 (87.09%)
- Houston vs. Arizona: 28,535 (71.33%)
The home team is listed on the left side of the match ups. Overall, two of the six games hosted at Big 12 stadiums had attendance top 100% capacity, with four of the six games topping 95%.
In the two biggest games of the day, BYU upset Utah 24-21 on Saturday night in the Holy War, while Arizona State also upset Texas Tech 26-22 in Tempe. The home team held serve in both those games, despite being underdogs.
Meantime, UCF blew out West Virginia 45-13 and Cincinnati crushed Oklahoma State 49-17. And in the other other games, it was TCU holding on late vs. Baylor 42-36 and Houston had a walk-off win vs. Arizona 31-28.
Houston’s attendance was especially disappointing given the team came in with a 5-1 record and a win got them to a bowl game in Year 2 under Willie Fritz. I know that a former Pac-12 team may not be super compelling for UH fans, but this team deserves way more support from the fans than what we are seeing in these attendance numbers. Elsewhere, in Stillwater, the Cowboys haven’t won a Big 12 game in two years, but their fans really showed up on Saturday, even rocking banana suits. But they’re loyal in Stillwater, and that was evident on Saturday night in a big loss.
