Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham announced that starting quarterback Sam Leavitt will miss the rest of the 2025 campaign, per Adam Beadle.
Leavitt is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery to address a lingering foot injury that sidelined him against Utah. He suffered the injury against the Baylor Bears in September. The Sun Devils, currently sitting at 5-3, are facing a pivotal stretch without their offensive leader.
Despite the injury, Leavitt started in last week’s 24-16 loss to Houston. With Leavitt now out, backup quarterback Jeff Sims is expected to take over as the starter when Arizona State travels to face Iowa State on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
Leavitt finishes the 2025 campaign with 1,628 passing yards and 10 touchdowns through the air. One of his signature performances came in a stunning upset over No. 7 Texas Tech, where he threw for over 300 yards to lead the Sun Devils to victory.
Last season, Arizona State captured the Big 12 title in its inaugural year in the conference. Leavitt was a key catalyst in that historic run, accounting for over 2,800 passing yards and 24 total touchdowns.
After Saturday, the Sun Devils will close the regular season with showdowns against West Virginia, Colorado, and Arizona.
