With backup quarterback Will Hammond out for the season, Behren Morton will return as the starting quarterback for the No. 13 Texas Tech Red Raiders against Kansas State on Saturday after missing the last two games, per Pete Nakos.
Texas Tech, now 7-1 on the season, is coming off a dominant 42-0 shutout win over Oklahoma State. The Red Raiders rotated three quarterbacks, Mitch Griffis, Holden Phillips, and Will Hammond, combining for 282 passing yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions in the blowout victory.
Morton remains undefeated as a starter this season and will face a tough test Saturday against a Kansas State team riding a two-game conference win streak, having scored 40-plus points in back-to-back outings.
The Wildcats currently hold an eight-game winning streak over the Red Raiders and look to get back to over .500.
For Texas Tech, Morton’s return brings much-needed continuity to an offense that has struggled at times in the passing attack since his absence.
The Red Raiders have battled multiple injuries at quarterback this season, yet have managed to stay firmly in the mix atop the Big 12 standings.
With Morton back on the field, the offense regains a steady hand with someone who has built chemistry with the receivers and can execute at a high level in key moments. His presence should instill stability and confidence throughout the unit.
