Kavian Bryant, a top-ranked quarterback in the Class of 2027, is heading to the Big 12. The 6’3”, 190-pounder from Palestine, Texas, has picked the Red Raiders over Texas, SMU, Colorado and Florida State in an announcement that came down on Saturday night, coincidentally during Texas Tech’s win over Kansas State.
Joey McGuire and his staff have been grinding on the recruiting trail, dominating the transfer portal class this past off-season, with the No. 1 class in the country. And now, they continue to dominate on the high school recruiting trial as well. Bryant is currently ranked at No. 2 on the quarterback recruiting rankings behind Elijah Haven, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, according to On3/Rivals. And at 247Sports, they have Bryant ranked as the No. 3 quarterback in the country, behind Haven and Israel Abrams, from Illinois.
The 2027 team rankings now have Texas Tech at No. 1 in the country, according to On3/Rivals, ahead of Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Alabama and Nebraska. In the 2026 rankings, Texas Tech is currently sitting at No. 21, with an average player score of 89.165.
Combine this with the success on the field, and we may be entering the Golden Age of Texas Tech football. The Red Raiders are now 8-1 on the season and 5-1 in Big 12 play after beating K-State on Saturday. And Texas Tech will host College GameDay next Saturday when the Red Raiders host BYU. Tech then wraps up the season with UCF and West Virginia, putting the program in a great position, if they win out, to reach the Big 12 Championship Game.
