Dylan Edwards Saga Ends with Transfer Portal Destination

NCAA Football: Kansas State | Heartland College Sports

The Dylan Edwards saga at Kansas State is officially over, at least for now. The junior running back is heading back to the transfer portal after two seasons in Manhattan, and while it’s not exactly the outcome anyone hoped for when he transferred from Colorado, it probably needed to happen.

This has been a weird fit from the jump. Edwards was a high-profile name with speed, versatility, and some serious buzz when he came back home to Kansas. The former Derby star had fans fired up, and on paper, it looked like a perfect reunion. But between injuries, unclear roles, and everything else swirling around his return, it never really clicked.

He finished with 205 yards and a couple of touchdowns on the ground, but outside of a few flashes early in the year, he didn’t see much of the field. Four games, redshirt, and now we’re back at square one. The thing is, this didn’t just feel like a depth chart issue. It felt like a chemistry thing. There’s been noise around his situation all season, questions about usage, rumors about whether he was all-in or one foot out. It became more of a storyline than his actual play.

For Kansas State, this clears the air. The running back room is in good hands, and if a guy isn’t totally locked in, it’s better to move on. Edwards is a talent, no doubt. But if the fit isn’t right and the production isn’t there, there’s no point dragging it out. The Wildcats have bigger goals than babysitting a transfer who isn’t thriving.

For Edwards, the move makes sense, too. He’s still got eligibility left and enough juice to be a weapon in the right system. The portal gives him a reset and a chance to find a program that’ll build around his speed and open-field ability. And maybe somewhere with less baggage and a simpler story.

This one never felt settled. Sometimes that’s how it goes. Not every big-name return is a fairytale. Kansas State will move forward without him, and Edwards gets to hit the reset button again. No hard feelings, but this always felt like a short-term deal. Now it’s officially over.
