Four-star edge rusher Taven Epps, a member of the 2027 recruiting class out of Tustin, California, has officially de-committed from the Texas Longhorns. Despite originally pledging to Texas in April, Epps has reopened his recruitment and is now exploring other programs.
At 6′4″ and 235 lbs, Epps was Texas’ only committed recruit in the 2027 junior class. However, after receiving multiple new offers and taking numerous campus visits over the summer and fall, he decided to keep his options open.
Among the schools now actively recruiting him are the USC Trojans and Georgia Bulldogs, both of which hosted him in September. He also visited the Oklahoma Sooners and Notre Dame Fighting Irish most recently.
Although Epps grew up in Texas, he relocated to California to boost his exposure in the recruiting circuit. His performances so far this junior season reflect his potential: he recorded 60 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and three sacks for Tustin.
According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, he is currently rated as the No. 96 overall prospect in the nation and No. 12 at his edge position in the 2027 class.
