YouTube TV subscribers got hit with a bad surprise this week when ESPN, ABC, and several other Disney-owned channels disappeared from the platform. Now, in an attempt to patch things up, YouTube TV is offering a $20 credit if the blackout lasts through Sunday.

The dispute between Google, which owns YouTube TV, and Disney revolves around contract negotiations. Talks broke down earlier this week, and the result is a full blackout of key sports content. That includes every ESPN channel, local ABC affiliates, and anything else under Disney’s broadcast umbrella. The timing couldn’t be worse, with college football entering its final stretch and the NFL heating up heading into mid-November.

For fans who rely on YouTube TV to watch Big 12 football, this is a real issue. No ESPN means no Saturday night games. No ABC means no national broadcast windows. Unless something changes before the weekend wraps up, millions of viewers are going to be looking for workarounds or missing out entirely.

YouTube TV sent out emails to users saying they would issue a $20 credit if the blackout stretches past Sunday. That’s a decent gesture, but it won’t make up for the fact that fans may miss rivalry games, postseason implications, and nationally relevant matchups. This isn’t a rerun problem; it’s live sports, and that’s what most people pay for.

At this point, the only options are to wait for a deal, switch providers, or miss out. YouTube TV says it’s working to resolve the issue, but until that happens, viewers are stuck in the middle. The $20 credit is on the table, but for most fans, they’d rather have the games.
