Week 12 of the college football season is upon us, as we are in store for another exciting weekend of Big 12 action. I thought it would be fun to rank the games based on my interest each week. Between big-time matchups, total duds, and everything in between, here are my best-to-worst games for the weekend.
#13 Utah at Baylor
It wasn’t easy picking the best game this week, but I believe this one is at the top of my list by a small margin. Utah is a legitimate Big 12 and playoff contender with their Top 15 ranking and Baylor is trying to figure out if they should keep Dave Aranda or let him walk. So there is a lot on the line this weekend in Waco for a game I have labeled as the Dave Aranda Bowl. I can promise you that there will be no shortage of drama in Waco this weekend.
TCU at #12 BYU
Much like the game above, this is a match up between two teams that are playing for entirely different reasons. BYU is coming off a disappointing loss to Texas Tech last weekend, yet they still control their own destiny in the Big 12 title race and have everything still in front of them. Meanwhile, Sonny Dykes is officially on the hot seat now with TCU after their ugly loss to Iowa State. A win here for TCU could go a long way for Dykes because if they lost this one, then there is a chance he could be gone sooner rather than later.
Arizona at #25 Cincinnati
If there is one team in the Big 12 that nobody is talking about it’s Cincinnati. The Bearcats are still in the hunt for a Big 12 title with just one loss in conference play and are still ranked inside the Top 25. Arizona has been playing better football as of late and have already punched their ticket to a bowl game. Even though this may not feel like a big game to some people, it certainly is when it comes to the conference standings.
West Virginia at Arizona State
Before the season started, I would have put this game dead last because there would be no chance in hell that West Virginia would win. But things change quickly in the conference and Arizona State is really banged up right now. Plus, West Virginia is quietly playing their best football of the season thanks to Scotty Fox Jr. and the guys around him. This game is an opportunity for Rich Rod to get a big road win and climb one step closer to a bowl game.
UCF at #6 Texas Tech
While it’s nice to see Texas Tech playing on FOX, unfortunately this game will be a dud. The Red Raiders are a 23.5-point favorite in this one and rightfully so. UCF isn’t very good and they are no match for the best team in the Big 12. Think of this game as a way of getting more publicity for Texas Tech and the conference.
Kansas State at Oklahoma State
I don’t have a whole lot to say here but yikes. Unless you are a die hard Big 12 fan like me then you probably have zero reason to watch this game. Neither team is very good but if you like watching a group of shirtless fans going crazy then tune in to ESPN2.
