As the LSU coaching search ramps up following Brian Kelly’s departure, plenty of names are being thrown around nationally — but Texas Tech fans can rest easy knowing one powerful voice in Lubbock isn’t worried. In fact, he’s making it very clear: Joey McGuire isn’t leaving.
On Sunday, Texas Tech mega-booster Cody Campbell responded directly to an LSU fan on X who suggested the Tigers should pursue Joey McGuire. Campbell wasted no time shutting the idea down.
Campbell isn’t just any voice in the Red Raider orbit. The former Tech offensive lineman and co-founder of Double Eagle Energy is one of the program’s largest financial backers. His investments helped spark Tech’s $200 million “Wreck ‘Em 2.0” facilities overhaul and played a major role in the university’s aggressive NIL positioning under The Matador Club.
So when Campbell speaks publicly about Texas Tech’s commitment to McGuire, it carries weight.
McGuire has repeatedly said he views Lubbock as a long-term home, and his energy, recruiting ability, and cultural fit have made him one of the most beloved coaches in college football right now. Frankly, he’s a perfect fit for West Texas. The former high school football coach is Texas Tech. And he’s turned this incredible season in exactly what Red Raiders fans have been longing for: Major success. Tech is 10-1 with one regular season game left at West Virginia. A win puts Tech in the Big 12 Championship Game, as the team is trying to win its first-ever Big 12 title.
The performance at home this fall was amazing. Texas Tech was 7-0 at The Jones this year with an average margin of victory, 36.7 points. In four conference home wins, their average margin of victory was 32 points. Absolute dominance.
And while many top programs around the country search for their next head coach, Texas Tech fans can rest easy knowing that McGuire isn’t going anywhere, and the most prominent booster is saying so.
The Red Raiders will enjoy a bye week before traveling to play WVU in Week 14 of the college football season.
