West Virginia just landed one of its biggest recruiting wins in years. Four-star offensive tackle Kevin Brown is staying home, announcing his commitment to the Mountaineers for the 2026 class. Brown, a product of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is ranked No. 49 overall in the country, No. 5 at his position, and the No. 2 prospect in the state.
This is a huge get for Rich Rodriguez and his staff. Kevin Brown had offers from schools all over the country and was once committed to Penn State before reopening his recruitment earlier this fall. After backing off that pledge, West Virginia made a strong push, and now the Mountaineers have a future anchor on the offensive line.
Brown checks all the boxes. He’s listed at 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds with room to add more size once he gets into a college weight program. On tape, he moves like a guy much lighter and doesn’t look uncomfortable in space. He’s already shown he can handle top-tier edge rushers in pass pro, and he finishes with some nastiness in the run game. Those traits don’t go unnoticed, especially in the Big 12, where line play can swing entire seasons.
This commitment has some legacy to it, too. Brown’s father, Tim, played offensive line at West Virginia in the early 2000s, so there’s already a connection to the program. But this wasn’t just about nostalgia. Brown chose West Virginia because he sees a real opportunity to play early and help build something.
For West Virginia, this is the kind of local win they need more of. Keeping top talent from going elsewhere is a big part of the rebuild, and Brown could end up being the face of that effort. It’s one thing to pull in developmental guys and hope for the best. It’s another to land a day-one-ready tackle with offers from top-10 programs.
Kevin Brown is a legit prospect who’s likely to be in the mix early. And for a team that’s still working to find its identity in the new-look Big 12, this is the kind of pickup that helps shape the future.
