On Saturday, elite JUCO running back Martavious Boswell dropped his final four graphic, and while Mississippi State and Tulsa made the cut, the two that actually matter here are the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Kansas State Wildcats. Both programs have real momentum with Boswell, and this feels like a Big 12 battle waiting to happen.
Boswell has been a standout at the junior college level and looks ready to make the jump to a Power Four backfield. He runs angrily, hits the hole with speed, and nearly always leaves defenders in the dust. He’s one of those backs who rack up numbers in space but doesn’t disappear when things get physical. Boswell brings juice, and whoever lands him is getting a plug-and-play weapon.
For West Virginia, this one makes a ton of sense. They’ve been trying to solidify their running back room, and Boswell fits the mold of what they’re looking for. Rich Rodriguez loves a physical run game, and with some shifting pieces in Morgantown, there’s a real opportunity for a guy like Boswell to step in and contribute right away.
Kansas State is also an interesting fit. Chris Klieman knows how to develop backs, and Boswell has the tools to be their next breakout guy. If he lands in Manhattan, don’t be surprised if he becomes a feature piece quickly. Prior to the Dylan Edwards fiasco, K-State put back-to-back running backs in the NFL with All-Conference numbers in Deuce Vaughn and DJ Giddens.
No commitment date has been announced yet, but when a JUCO guy releases a final four, it usually means a decision isn’t far off. The visits will matter, and so will fit. Boswell’s going to want a place where he can play early, compete right away, and put enough on tape to start thinking about Sundays.
This is one of those recruitments that might not grab national headlines but could end up being a huge deal in the Big 12 race. West Virginia and Kansas State are both in it deep, and whichever one seals the deal is walking away with a back who can change a game.
