Kansas State is officially on the board in the transfer portal, but it’s not a move that’s going to keep anyone up at night. Freshman running back JB Price is heading out, marking the first departure for the Wildcats this cycle. Price, a former three-star prospect out of Stilwell, Kansas, saw limited action in 2025 and never really cracked the rotation.
He finishes his time in Manhattan with nine carries for 18 yards. That’s the stat line. Not exactly a headline-maker.
Price came in with some mild buzz as a local kid who could develop into a depth piece. At 5-foot-10 and around 195 pounds, he had the physical tools to compete, but the backfield was always crowded. Guys like Joe Jackson, Antonio Martin, and Dylan Edwards (somewhat) took meaningful snaps, and with the Wildcats continuing to recruit that position hard, the writing was pretty much on the wall. If you’re not getting carries during blowouts or garbage time, chances are, you’re not going to suddenly be the guy next season.
This isn’t a huge hit to the program or anything, but it’s just how the portal works now. A player sees a crowded room, doesn’t see a path, and looks elsewhere. There’s no drama, no bitterness. It’s just one of those business decisions that makes sense for everyone. Price will probably land at a Group of Five school or an FCS program where he can get actual reps, and Kansas State opens up a scholarship for another position of need.
If this is the biggest loss Kansas State takes in the portal, they’re in great shape. Losing a freshman running back with under 20 yards on the season isn’t something that requires a reset. It’s just a quiet exit from a kid who wants a shot. Nothing more, nothing less.
