Lane Kiffin has officially entered “scorched earth” mode at Ole Miss, and it’s getting uglier by the hour. After reportedly agreeing to bolt for LSU ahead of the College Football Playoff, Kiffin is now pulling stunts that feel more like sabotage than a professional exit. According to reports, he demanded to coach the playoff before leaving, then told his assistants they could either leave now or risk not getting hired with him at LSU. That’s some diva energy for a guy who spent the last few years pretending to be Mr. Loyalty.
But the best part? One of the Big 12’s sharpest young coaches noticed, and he let the tweet fly.
Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham, a guy who’s not afraid to stir the pot, posted a quote from Denzel Washington that read, “Beware of destination addiction: The idea that happiness is in the next place, the next job, or even the next partner. Until you give up the idea that happiness is somewhere else, it will never be where you are.”
If that sounds familiar, it should. Lane Kiffin tweeted that exact quote back in 2021, tagging Ole Miss and adding, “Grass isn’t always greener! Trust me, I know!!!!! Be where your feet are!!”
You can’t make this stuff up.
Dillingham deleted the post pretty quickly, but not before screenshots started making the rounds. Whether it was meant as a direct shot or just a well-timed coincidence, the message was clear: Kiffin’s out here preaching one thing and doing the exact opposite.
This whole saga is peak SEC chaos. Kiffin just led Ole Miss to the best regular season in school history, has them in the playoff, and is still actively blowing up the foundation on his way out. He wants to coach in the playoff while already negotiating his new staff at LSU. That’s not leadership, that’s self-interest.
Credit to Dillingham for calling it like it is. Coaches talk all the time about culture, commitment, and building something bigger than themselves. But when the bag shows up, a lot of them sprint for the exit and leave everyone else holding the pieces.
Kiffin’s doing what’s best for him. That’s fine. But maybe next time, skip the motivational tweets.
