If you didn’t catch Kansas State’s game against Bowling Green, count yourself lucky. The Wildcats didn’t just lose on their home floor; they got straight-up embarrassed by a team they were supposed to outclass in just about every way. Final score? 82-66, Falcons. And it didn’t feel that close.
This wasn’t a bad shooting night or one of those scrappy mid-majors catching fire. This was K-State getting run off the floor by a MAC team that looked like it wanted to be there more. They got beat to every loose ball, lost the rebounding battle, and looked like they were stuck in quicksand while Bowling Green played like it was the Sweet 16.
After the game, Jerome Tang didn’t duck it. He walked into the presser and said it flat out: “We didn’t deserve to wear a K-State uniform tonight.” That’s a tough pill to swallow, but he wasn’t wrong. His team looked disconnected, uninspired, and straight-up lost for most of the night.
This is Tang’s fourth year in Manhattan, and until now, he’s been a culture guy through and through. The 2022-23 run brought him plenty of accolades, and rightfully so, but since then, it’s been a much bigger struggle. You don’t get to talk about toughness and pride and then lay an egg in front of your own fans without people asking what’s really going on.
There’s no one player to point the finger at, either; it was all bad. The defensive rotations were a mess, the energy was off, and offensively, they couldn’t buy a bucket. Bowling Green controlled the tempo, dictated the game, and looked like the more complete team. That should never happen in Bramlage Coliseum, especially not against a team with zero expectations coming in.
Now K-State’s dropped three straight, and the questions are piling up. This roster has talent, but something’s off. The effort isn’t there. The cohesion is gone. And unless they figure it out quickly, the Big 12 slate is going to chew them up and spit them out.
Jerome Tang said what needed to be said. Now we’ll see if his guys actually listened.
