Oklahoma State just pulled off a flip that Baylor fans probably saw coming from a mile away.
Kole Seaton, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive lineman out of Mesquite Horn (TX), is headed to Stillwater after backing off his pledge to Baylor. The Cowboys extended an offer yesterday, and less than 24 hours later, Seaton made it official and flipped. And really, you can’t blame the kid for it.
Seaton committed to Baylor back in November with the idea that he’d be part of a solid foundation up front. But that foundation cracked fast. Baylor currently doesn’t even have an offensive line coach on staff, and with the way the Bears have been bleeding talent on both sides of the ball, there’s been zero clarity about who’s going to be around to coach him. That’s not exactly the kind of thing you overlook when you’re trying to figure out where to spend the next four years.
So when Oklahoma State came knocking, it wasn’t a hard sell. They’ve got coaching stability under Eric Morris. They’ve got momentum. And they offered him a real shot to be part of something that looks like it’s building, not breaking. For Seaton, the timing lined up perfectly.
The move makes sense for Morris and company, too. Oklahoma State’s offensive line play has been awful under Mike Gundy the last few years, and locking down a kid with Seaton’s frame and upside is a smart step forward. He’s a long, lean tackle who moves well for his size, and he’s still got room to add good weight. If he develops right, he’s a Big 12 starter in a couple of years.
On the flip side, it’s another gut punch for Dave Aranda’s staff. Baylor has now lost multiple commits in the last few weeks, and Seaton’s decommitment only adds to the growing list of questions about the program’s direction. The longer they go without an OL coach in place, the harder it’s going to be to keep any of these offensive line targets from bouncing.
For Seaton, this move is about finding stability and a staff that’s actually in place. Oklahoma State gave him both. Baylor, at the moment, didn’t have much to stand on.
