BYU is Calling Out ESPN Over Its Bogus Headlines

BYU has had enough. And good for them. We’ve all had enough of the narrative around BYU Football only being a potential College Football Playoff “spoiler” if they upset Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship Game this weekend.

This was the chyron on ESPN’s “Get Up” on Thursday morning, when they were discussing Championship Weekend and its College Football Playoff implications.

It’s an absurd narrative, because under many other circumstances, switch BYU’s logo with any “blue blood” and at 11-1, with BYU’s resume, this team would already be considered safely in the 12-Team Playoff.

So BYU’s official football X account responded with the below graphic. Now for the back story, this is a graphic from Tuesday night’s Playoff committee show, when they did resume comparisons between Alabama, Notre Dame and Miami, teams ranked No. 9, 10 and 12, while completely leaving BYU out of the picture.

So, BYU added itself in response to the above chyron, with this post.

As you can see, and as we’ve discussed plenty on our YouTube show (subscribe here if you’re a Big 12 or college football fan), BYU’s resume would be considered a lock, especially when compared to the other three, who are getting much more love from the College Football Playoff committee and the ESPN talking heads.

BYU, and the rest of us, needs to continue to push back on the absurdity that has become this discussion around the College Football Playoff. BYU is only considered a “spoiler” at this point because of a perceived “weaker” schedule. But their Strength of Schedule is better than Notre Dame and Miami, and their Strength of Record is better than Notre Dame, Miami and Alabama. ESPN wants to avoid this because it’s inconvenient for their narrative.
