Sam Leavitt’s Latest Move May Prove He’s Done at Arizona State

Something’s going on in Tempe, and it doesn’t take a detective to figure it out. Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt didn’t show up to the team banquet this weekend, and that says a whole lot more than folks are probably ready to admit.

Every other team captain was there. Everyone. But not Leavitt. Then Kenny Dillingham took the mic and gave him a little shoutout, wishing him well in “whatever his future may hold.” That’s the kind of comment that says everything.

There’s been no official word from Leavitt himself, but it doesn’t take an insider to connect the dots. Dude skips a captain’s event, doesn’t give a public reason, and then the head coach gives him a soft goodbye without actually saying it. Come on.

And if this really is the end of the road for Leavitt in Tempe, it’s not a small deal. He was the centerpiece of what Dillingham was building. You don’t just plug and play a guy like that overnight, especially one with multiple years of eligibility and proven upside in your system.

It’s possible he’s just thinking things over. Maybe there’s a real reason for the absence and all this settles down. But it feels like the portal’s coming. The whispers are getting louder, and Arizona State fans are already bracing for the announcement.

No drama’s ever simple in this sport, but this one’s shaping up to be another portal-era flameout. If Leavitt’s gone, the clock just started ticking on ASU’s next big quarterback decision.
