Watch: Taylor Lewan Wonders if Matt Campbell Can Be the Next Michigan Coach

NCAA Football: Cincinnati at Iowa State

The Michigan Wolverines are now looking for a new head coach after Sherrone Moore was fired on Wednesday afternoon. And there are already a bunch of names being mentioned as the next head coach. However, Michigan alum and Bussin’ With the Boys host Taylor Lewan went on ESPN’s Get Up, and threw out a surprising name: Former Iowa State and current Penn State head coach Matt Campbell.

“I would look to Matt Campbell… I would look at how dry that ink is on that contract,” Lewan said.

Here’s the clip, where he also mentioned Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham as a potential target. Dillingham is listed as having Top 5 odds to be the next head coach of the Wolverines.

Campbell just agreed to become the next head coach of the Nittany Lions less than one week ago, but, if I were a betting man, I would say the ink on the deal is dry. However, I did speculate as to whether or not Campbell took the wrong job, given what has transpired with Michigan and what may come to fruition with the Notre Dame job potentially coming open as well.

Michigan fired Sherrone Moore on Wednesday. He was later detained by police in nearby Saline, a few miles outside of Ann Arbor, according to ESPN.

Moore had been “involved in an incident that required police attention,” according to the Detroit News.

The university cited an inappropriate relationship with a staff member as the reason for Moore’s firing.

“Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member,” athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement. “This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”

Moore, 39, just completed his second season as head coach after serving as an assistant coach on Jim Harbaugh’s staff from 2018-2023. The Wolverines were 17-8 during his tenure, including a 9-3 finish this season. Associate head coach Biff Poggi will be Michigan’s interim head coach for the Citrus Bowl against Texas on Dec. 31.
