Syndication: Arizona Republic

It’s unofficially college basketball season now that Saturdays with non-stop college football is officially over. And Arizona State head coach Bobby Hurley made sure he got us all revved up for hoops on Saturday when he got hit with two technical fouls in a 10-second span on Saturday against Santa Clara, which got him ejected from the game.

Here’s a look at how it went down for Hurley, with his ejection coming in the final seconds of the first half.

If Hurley was just trying to get his team inspired, as they trailed by 11 points at the time of his ejection, it worked. It just took time. The Broncos benefitted by scoring six unanswered points in that time period to take a 55-38 lead going into the half. The Sun Devils came storming back in the second half to beat Santa Clara 82-79. Santa Clara entered the game as a 2.5-point favorite.

The Sun Devils officially took their first lead of the game – going up 68-66 with just over seven minutes left in the game. A forced turnover just second later resulted in a transition dunk by Massamba Diop to give the team a 70-66 lead. Arizona State never trailed again on their way to victory.

Arizona State is back on the hardwood on Wednesday night when they travel to face former Pac-12 foe UCLA on the road.
