It looks like Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt is going to be one of the hotter names in the portal, and the suitors are already lining up. According to On3, four schools have emerged as early options to keep an eye on: Oregon, Indiana, Miami, and LSU.
Leavitt hasn’t officially announced the schools he’s considering yet, but this has been coming for a while. Leavitt reportedly missed the team banquet at ASU, and head coach Kenny Dillingham has already wished him luck in whatever comes next.
Oregon makes a lot of sense. It’s close to home, it’s got a high-powered offense, and the Ducks could use a guy with some reps under his belt. Leavitt’s played in big games, and he knows how to run tempo and spread looks, and that’s basically Oregon’s entire identity. Plus, he’d be stepping into a team that’s built to win now.
Indiana is probably the most interesting name on the list. They’ve been trending up since Curt Cignetti took over, and they could use a quarterback to follow in Fernando Mendoza’s footsteps. If Leavitt wants to walk into a spot where he’s the guy from day one and play Big Ten football, Indiana wouldn’t be a bad call.
Miami’s always going to be in these conversations. They’ve got talent, they’ve got NIL backing, and they’ve been trying to find that next step at quarterback. If Leavitt wants to go play in a big-time market with weapons around him, the Hurricanes would give him that shot.
Then there’s LSU, where the Tigers are expected to be aggressive considering who they now have on the sidelines. You can’t ever count out Lane Kiffin when there’s a proven starter on the market, and Leavitt’s mix of mobility and accuracy would be a solid fit in that offense.
It’s early, and a lot can change between now and January, but these are the schools expected to make a push. He’ll be one of the top quarterbacks out there, and based on how the past two years went, he’s earned the attention.
